Vegan Bacon

One thing we hear from vegan curious individuals is that they can't bear living without bacon. Rest assured there are a few great vegan bacon alternatives out there. Our oldest son happens to love Smart Bacon made by Lightlife. Since there is no competing there, we decided to try an easier and healthy version of vegan bacon.

This is not one of those delectable vegan meat-like substitute recipes. This does not taste or feel like actual bacon. We actually rarely go for that. Instead it's just a fun twist that's also tasty! We hope you have fun making this and enjoy!

Vegan Bacon Ingredients:

  • Rice paper

  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup

  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce

  • 1/8 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper

  • 1/8 teaspoon of paprika

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 425F.

  • In a small bowl, make the marinade. Mix the soy sauce and maple syrup together. Add in the spices and mix well.

  • Layer 3 sheets of the rice paper on top of one another. Cut them in strips similar to bacon.

  • Take each strip (with the 3 layers stacked still), and dip into the marinade.

  • On a lined baking sheet, place the vegan bacon side-by-side.

  • Bake in the oven for 5-8 minutes. Keep a close eye to ensure they do not burn.

  • Remove from the oven when they are slightly crispy.

  • Serve and enjoy! We love pairing these with our favorite pancakes, waffles and alone.
